Almost five centuries of Oberlehenhof
and why we still call it home
Our Oberlehenhof has stood on this mountainside for nearly half a millennium – weathering seasons, centuries, and stories. But let’s start at the beginning: in 1593, the estate belonged to the Bishopric of Trento. It would take hundreds more years, until 1948, for it to become ours: the Pichler family’s. Today, “we” means Senior Hosts Josef Pichler and his wife Erika, Junior Host Dominik Pichler with his wife Verena, and the next generation.
Summer retreats – then (and now) an Alpine essential
When Josef’s parents opened their doors in 1948, they welcomed summer guests seeking cool mountain breezes, especially those escaping the heat of Bolzano. At 1,180 metres above sea level, Eggen has always been a natural refuge. By 1970, the simple holiday flats had evolved into comfortable guest rooms, and the residence blossomed into a modern guesthouse with an outdoor pool. In 1982, Josef and Erika took the reins, adding new life to the Oberlehenhof tradition.
A new millennium, and a new way of welcoming you
Experience and foresight have long defined our family, and these are the exact qualities that shape your well-being here. As the millennium turned, we embraced the changing needs of travellers and transformed the guesthouse into a hotel – complete with a wellness area and an indoor pool. Generous suites complemented the new concept, and a spacious dining room was designed for lingering breakfasts and convivial evenings.

At our family-run hotel, we truly value personal guest interaction. Our day starts early, as we work hard to ensure every guest feels at home. Looking for hiking tips? No problem, we’ve explored every path. Fancy a bike ride? We know the area like the back of our hand. Verena, in particular, loves to go from table to table in the morning, offering guests a personalised itinerary tailored just for them, if they wish.
